The Delhi High Court has permitted the petitioner, who was temporarily disabled due to a fracture in her right hand, to avail the facility of a scribe for the Class X Board Examinations, despite the school’s rejection of her request.
based on the assurance given by CBSE’s counsel, a Single Judge Bench of Justice Jasmeet Singh noted the urgency of the matter, as the examinations were to begin imminently, and therefore, allowed the petition.
The petition was disposed of, when the counsel for CBSE informed the court that the competent authority had already considered and allowed the petitioner’s request for a scribe, and stated that an email would be sent to the petitioner’s school to ensure that the facility was provided, and the petitioner would be permitted to avail the scribe facility for her examinations.
Briefly, the relief sought was a direction to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to permit the petitioner to appear in the Class X Board Examination, 2026, with the facility of a scribe or substitute writer.
It was claimed through her guardian that the petitioner had suffered a severe accident resulting in a fracture in her right hand, rendering her unable to write the examination. Though she had made a representation to the Principal of her school, Knewton International School, seeking permission to avail the scribe facility, the said request was rejected.
