The Supreme Court dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the introduction of 20 percent ethanol-blended petrol (E20) on the ground that consumers were not given the option of ethanol-free fuel.
A Bench of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran rejected the plea after the Central government defended the policy, stating that E20 promotes energy security, benefits sugarcane farmers, and aligns with the country’s renewable energy goals. The government also questioned the petitioner’s credentials.
The Court dismissed the petition and declined to interfere with the rollout.
