NHRC seeks report Odisha healthcare

On 25-01-2026, a complaint was filed before the National Human Rights Commission regarding an accident near the SCB Medical College, Cuttack, due to the failure of healthcare, emergency support systems, and the lack of proper medical facilities in Odisha.

The complaint alleged that an elderly man was forced to pull his paralyzed wife in a trolley rickshaw for approximately 350 kms from Sambalpur to SCB Medical College, only to receive medical treatment. It was asserted that upon returning after the treatment, the couple met with an accident, which resulted in injuries.

The complainant also produced a news clip regarding this incident and stated that the incident was a result of improper treatment, referral facilities, and medical transport at the local government hospital.

The Commission directed a copy of the complaint to be sent to the Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, and called for an Action Taken Report to be submitted within four weeks.

The matter is now listed after four weeks.
