SC Declines PIL Ahmedabad

Suresh Chand Shrivastava v. Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) [Order dated April 01, 2026]

The Supreme Court today has expressed strong reservations over a public interest petition (PIL) filed in relation to the Air India Boeing 787 crash, questioning both its maintainability and the petitioner’s intent, and indicating that such matters should first be raised before the appropriate authority.

Chief Justice Surya Kant noted that individuals directly affected by the incident, including families of victims, had not approached the Court, while third parties were filing petitions in the name of public interest.

“People file this kind of petition. What is your deep-rooted agenda? The people who unfortunately lost their lives, their families are not coming. Those who are directly having grievance, they are not coming.”

The Court ultimately declined to entertain the plea at this stage and advised the petitioner to first submit his representation to the concerned authority.
