Bal Kumar Patel v. State of UP, [Decided on 2.12.2025]

FIR Quashing Dismissed

In a significant order, the Supreme Court today dismissed a batch of petitions filed by Bal Kumar Patel, former Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party, seeking the quashing of five criminal FIRs registered against him in Uttar Pradesh.

The FIRs, registered between 2007 and arising from allegations of illegal possession of arms, use of forged documents, and excess ammunition, had earlier been refused to be quashed by the Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench). Former MP had approached the Supreme Court in multiple Special Leave Petitions challenging these orders.

The Court declined to interfere with the High Court’s findings and dismissed the plea in its entirety, allowing the criminal proceedings against the former MP to continue.
