Supreme Court declines to stall release of ‘Udaipur Files’

The Supreme Court has refused to stay the release of the film ‘Udaipur Files’, which is based on the gruesome 2022 beheading of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal. The plea was filed by one of the accused, who claimed that the film’s release would adversely impact his right to a fair trial.

Appearing before the vacation bench, counsel for the accused sought an urgent hearing, pointing out that the film is scheduled for release on July 11. However, the bench led by Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia declined to entertain the matter on priority and directed the petitioner to mention the case before a regular bench after the Court reopens on July 14.

Responding to the request, the bench remarked, “Let the film be released,” effectively clearing the way for the film’s scheduled release. The Court made it clear that no immediate relief would be granted at this stage.
