SC Asks Woman to Specify Relief in Plea Alleging Targeted Violence; Woman Escorted Out After Repeated Submissions

Supreme Court

In a brief courtroom exchange, Chief Justice Surya Kant attempted to assist a woman advocate who alleged that members of her family had been targeted and killed by persons linked to political figures. The petitioner repeatedly narrated a series of incidents, including the alleged murder of her brother, attempted killing of her mother, theft, etc. and subsequent inaction by authorities despite approaching courts and seeking legal remedies.

Despite the Court’s efforts to guide her, including asking what specific relief she sought or when she wanted her matter listed, the petitioner continued to reiterate her grievances without articulating a clear prayer. The Chief Justice advised her to focus on the relief sought and indicated that the Court would consider the matter appropriately once properly placed.

The Court also noted that such grievances must be pursued through appropriate legal channels. As the petitioner continued to repeat factual allegations without responding to the Court’s queries, the Bench cautioned her against testing the Court’s patience. Eventually, she was escorted out of the courtroom.
