In an unusually candid courtroom moment, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday reserved judgment in a high-profile Article 227 petition citing hunger, fatigue, and physical exhaustion after a prolonged post-lunch hearing session.

The matter, Chandralekha Singh vs. Canara Bank & Others, had been remanded by the Supreme Court with a clear nudge to decide it “as early as possible,” preferably within six months. That six-month window expired on the very day the case was taken up under the “expedited matters” heading.

With a cause list bursting at the seams over 90 fresh matters, 100-plus regular cases, dozens of miscellaneous applications, and additional unlisted items, the court finally commenced hearing the case at 4:15 p.m. Arguments stretched well into the evening, concluding at 7:10 p.m.

The Hon’ble Court noted that, being “hungry, tired and physically incapacitated to dictate the judgment.
