The Supreme Court Collegium has adopted a policy decision aimed at strengthening the efficiency and quality of judicial administration in High Courts across the country.
Under the new approach, a Judge proposed to take over as Chief Justice of a High Court may be transferred well in advance preferably two months before the vacancy arises so that the recommendee becomes conversant with the functioning and administrative affairs of the concerned High Court. The objective is to ensure a smoother transition and enable the incoming Chief Justice to assume charge seamlessly upon the retirement of the incumbent.
