SCOARA Condemns Disrespectful Act Against CJI, Calls for Upholding Judicial Dignity

SCOARA resolution

The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCOARA), in a resolution dated October 6, 2025, expressed deep anguish and disapproval over the recent act of an advocate who allegedly disrespected the office and authority of the Chief Justice of India and companion judges through an “unwarranted and intemperate gesture.” Calling the act unbecoming of a member of the Bar and contrary to the values of decorum, discipline, and institutional integrity, SCOARA termed it a direct assault on judicial independence and public faith in the justice system.

The Association reaffirmed its faith in secularism, unity, and fraternity within the legal fraternity and urged lawyers to maintain professional decorum and avoid divisive conduct. Further, SCOARA requested the Supreme Court to consider taking suo motu cognizance of the act and initiate contempt proceedings, emphasizing that while freedom of speech is vital, it must be exercised with restraint by officers of the court.

However, CJI decides not to take any action against the lawyer.
