The portrait of former Union Law Minister and Senior Advocate Ashoke Kumar Sen was unveiled at the Calcutta High Court Bar Library Club on September 11 by Acting Chief Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty, in the presence of members of the Bar and Sen’s family.

Senior Advocate Sanjiv Sen, Sen’s grand-nephew, recalled his contribution to India’s constitutional and legal journey and described him as one of the greatest lawyers to practise before the Supreme Court and Calcutta High Court. He also highlighted Sen’s commitment to extensive preparation, continuous learning and professional dignity.

Sanjiv Sen recalled that former Chief Justice B.B. Sinha had offered Ashoke Sen a Supreme Court judgeship when he was 45, but he chose to continue practising at the Bar.

He said the portrait should serve as a reminder to young lawyers of Sen’s commitment to preparation, clear drafting and treating professional disagreements with dignity.

The ceremony follows the unveiling of Sen’s portrait at the Supreme Court Bar Association Library on July 29, 2026, by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant.
