Bharat Chugh Recognised As Registered Foreign Lawyer Before Singapore International Commercial Court

Singapore Court Lawyer Recognition

In a significant international recognition, leading disputes lawyer Mr Bharat Chugh has been recognised as a Registered Foreign Lawyer with rights of audience before the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) in accordance with the Court’s governing framework.

The recognition marks an important milestone in Bharat Chugh’s distinguished legal career spanning judicial service, complex dispute resolution, arbitration, and commercial litigation, while further strengthening his international disputes practice.

Bharat began his legal journey with exceptional distinction, securing All India Rank 1 in the Delhi Judicial Services Examination (2013) at the age of 23, following which he served as a Metropolitan Magistrate/Civil Judge in Delhi. After an accomplished judicial tenure, he transitioned to independent legal practice in 2016, joining Luthra and Luthra Law Offices, where he rose from Counsel to become the then youngest Partner in the Delhi office.

Over the years, he has advised and appeared in a broad spectrum of high-stakes matters, including complex criminal trials, domestic and international arbitrations (including proceedings under SIAC and LCIA frameworks), technology disputes, and commercial litigation.

Bharat has also contributed significantly to the arbitration ecosystem internationally, having represented India on the Young SIAC Steering Committee.

His public law and institutional contributions include assisting the Delhi High Court as Amicus Curiae in important matters and advising the committee appointed by the Supreme Court in relation to the Manipur violence matter.

A committed legal educator, Bharat regularly serves as a resource person and guest lecturer at more than 15 judicial, police, administrative, and legal academies and institutions, and is widely recognised for his writings on law, justice, and institutional reform.

Since 2021, he has been practising as an independent arguing counsel, leading the Chambers of Bharat Chugh, with offices in Delhi and Gurgaon and a growing disputes team.

Speaking on the recognition, Mr Bharat Chugh said

“SICC occupies a unique place in international dispute resolution, it is one of the very few courts in the world where common law principles are applied with genuine internationalism in both procedure and counsel. Being recognised as a Registered Foreign Lawyer before the SICC, for offshore cases, is a privilege I do not take lightly. India and Singapore share deep legal traditions rooted in English common law, and I look forward to contributing to that conversation especially as cross-border commercial and technology disputes increasingly define the landscape.”
