Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has constituted a Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee to map infrastructural requirements of courts across the country and build a case for allocation of ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 crore towards strengthening judicial infrastructure.
The committee has been tasked with preparing a detailed report on infrastructure requirements and submitting it to Sanjeev Sanyal, member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Economic Advisory Council, by August 31.
Justice Aravind Kumar will chair the committee. Other members include Justice Debangsu Basak, Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan, the Director General of CPWD, and the Secretary General of the Supreme Court of India.
The committee’s mandate spans seven key areas, including identifying infrastructural constraints faced by stakeholders in the justice delivery system, recommending modern facilities for judges, lawyers, litigants, and visitors, and suggesting technological upgrades for faster disposal of cases.
The panel will also examine computerisation of courts as part of the e-courts initiative, citizen-centric services aimed at bridging the digital divide, development of modern court complexes, and improvement of working conditions for judicial officers and court staff.
