CJI Welcomes Judicial Delegation from the Supreme Court of Bhutan During the 9-Judge Bench Sabarimala Reference Hearing

Bhutan judicial delegation visit

The Supreme Court on Monday warmly welcomed a distinguished judicial delegation from the Royal Court of Justice, Supreme Court of Bhutan, during the hearing before the Constitution Bench in the Sabarimala reference matter.

Introducing the visiting delegation in open court, the Chief Justice Surya Kant acknowledged the presence of senior members of Bhutan’s judiciary and legal institutions, describing them as “part and parcel of our extended judicial family.”

The delegation included Justices Sanay Khantu, Kinley Dorji, and Bema Amarchand from the Supreme Court of Bhutan, along with Chief Justice of the High Court of Bhutan, Justice Duba Dupka.

Also present were the Registrar General of the Supreme Court of Bhutan, the Director General of the Bhutan National Legal Institute, the Chief IT Officer of the Supreme Court of Bhutan, Madam, assistant judges, as well as court registrars accompanying the delegation on their official visit to India.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta also welcomed the delegation. He added that they are one of the finest courts in the world.

Senior Advocate Jaideep Gupta also lightly added that the size of the bench has now gone up,” in reference to the presence of the visiting judges during the proceedings.
