The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in a Public Interest Litigation concerning alleged persistent sewerage, sanitation and public-health problems in Bhagwati Garden, Dwarka Mor, South-West Delhi. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia directed the authorities to inspect the locality and file a status report within two weeks.
The PIL raised concerns over recurring sewer blockage and overflow, sewage and dirty water accumulating on public roads and near residential premises, inadequate sweeping and garbage collection, and mosquito and fly infestation. The petitioner has sought directions for cleaning, desilting and deblocking of sewer lines, prevention of sewage overflow and regular sanitation and pest-control measures.
The petition also seeks a joint physical inspection of the affected locality and accountability for alleged administrative inaction, along with a time-bound action taken/compliance report from the civic authorities.
The Court issued notice to both respondents. MCD and DJB have been directed to inspect the site before filing their respective status reports within two weeks, following which the petitioner may file a reply within two weeks. The matter has been listed for November 20, 2026.
