In a writ petition filed before the Delhi High Court by the two vendors seeking permission to contest the upcoming Town Vending Committee (TVC) Elections, after filing their nominations to contest the same, a Division Bench of Justice Prathiba M. Singh and Justice Vikas Mahajan refused to entertain the present petition.
The petitioners had filed their nomination forms in the first week of July 2026 as the last date for the same was 10-07-2026. A final list of contestants and members was published by the MCD on 11-07-2026. The petitioners’ grievance was that their nominations had been rejected and that they were not given an opportunity to rectify the same. The MCD mentioned that the respective Proposer was a part of TVC-II under a different ward for both vendors, which is why their nominations were rejected.

The Court found it to be clear that the scrutiny had taken place on 11-07-2026 and that the petitioners became aware of their rejection on the said date itself. As the ballot papers had been printed and the election was scheduled for 02-08-2026, the Court was not inclined to interfere in the matter. It was stated that in similar petitions before this Court, a similar view had been taken since the constitution of the TVC and the elections are extremely important considering the issues regarding street vendors across Delhi.
Since the Supreme Court had also passed directions for expeditious constitution of TVC, the Court refused to entertain the present petition and thus, dismissed the same while granting liberty to the petitioners to avail any other remedy.
