The Delhi High Court has transferred District Judge Rakesh Kumar-V from Rohini Courts and attached him to the Delhi Judicial Academy in a diverted capacity with immediate effect, following a viral courtroom exchange between the judicial officer and President of the Rohini Court Bar Association.
As per an administrative order issued by the Registrar General on May 17, District Judge Dheeraj Mittal, who was serving as Additional Director at the Delhi Judicial Academy, has been posted as District Judge-04, North-West District, Rohini, in place of Kumar.
The development comes a day after videos circulated on social media purportedly showing a heated verbal confrontation between Judge Rakesh Kumar and lawyers at Rohini Courts, including the President of the Rohini Court Bar Association. The exchange arose during proceedings after a request for a passover was allegedly declined, leading to sharp arguments inside the courtroom.
The order clarified that the judicial officer under transfer must pronounce all reserved judgments within a prescribed period and notify the dates of pronouncement in the cause list as well as on the websites of the Delhi Judicial Academy and the district courts.
