As part of Dubai Arbitration Week 2026, Chamber One Advocates and Karol, Bhadauria & Associates will organise a panel discussion titled “Beyond the Arbitration Clause: Consent, Courts & The Battle for Jurisdiction” on November 12, 2026, in Dubai.
The session will bring together former Supreme Court Judges Justice S. Ravindra Bhat and Justice Sanjay Karol, along with leading arbitration practitioners from India and the United Arab Emirates, to examine some of the most consequential questions in international arbitration concerning the scope of arbitration agreements, party consent and the jurisdictional relationship between courts and arbitral tribunals.
The discussion will be structured around two panels. The first, “Who Consented? The Expanding Boundaries of Arbitration Agreements”, will examine the limits of party consent and the circumstances in which arbitration agreements may extend beyond their expressly named signatories.
The second panel, “When Courts and Arbitrators Collide: Who Has the Last Word?”, will explore the interface between judicial intervention and arbitral jurisdiction, including the respective roles of courts and arbitral tribunals in determining jurisdictional questions.
The speakers include Justice S. Ravindra Bhat and Justice Sanjay Karol, former Judges of the Supreme Court of India; Ed Crosse, Partner and Head of Middle East Disputes and Investigations at Simmons & Simmons, Dubai; Abdul Sattar Pirzada, Co-Founder and Partner, Khaled Almarri & Partners; Divyam Agarwal, Partner, JSA; and Khushboo Shahdadpuri, Partner, Al Tamimi & Company and Shanelle Irani, Partner, Pinsent Masons.
The panel will also feature Pranay Chitale, Partner, Chamber One Advocates, and Sarthak Karol, Partner, Karol, Bhadauria & Associates, among other practitioners.
The discussion will focus on the evolving boundaries of arbitration agreements and the challenges that arise when questions of jurisdiction bring courts and arbitral tribunals into direct engagement. It will also provide an opportunity to examine how different legal systems approach consent, jurisdictional objections and judicial oversight in international commercial arbitration.
The event will be held at Anantara Downtown Dubai on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 3:00 pm GST.
