Federation of Indian Corporate Lawyers wins Legal 500 In-house Counsel Association Excellence Award 2026 in Singapore

FICL Legal 500 excellence award

India’s foremost in-house legal association beats nominees from Indonesia, Germany and Canada to receive one of the most prestigious global recognitions in the in-house legal profession at the Legal 500 Southeast Asia Awards, Singapore, 30 March 2026.

The Federation of Indian Corporate Lawyers (FICL) has won the Legal 500 In-House Counsel Association Excellence Award, presented at the Legal 500 Southeast Asia Awards 2026 ceremony held in Singapore on 30 April 2026.

FICL was selected from a competitive global shortlist that included the Indonesian Corporate Counsel Association, the In-House Counsel Group of the German Bar Association (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Syndikusanwälte im Deutschen AnwaltVerein e.V.), and the Canadian Bar Association – In House Lawyers.

About the Legal 500

Founded in 1987, the Legal 500 is one of the world’s most authoritative and widely referenced independent legal directories, covering over 150 jurisdictions globally. Based on rigorous independent research, peer reviews and client feedback, it benchmarks law firms, legal departments and individual practitioners against the highest international standards. Its in-house counsel awards, introduced to recognise the growing strategic importance of corporate legal teams, honour associations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the in-house legal profession worldwide. A Legal 500 recognition is widely regarded across the global legal community as a mark of the highest professional distinction.

FICL’s Journey

Founded in 2020, FICL was established with a clear and ambitious mandate – to be the national voice for corporate lawyers in India. In the years since, it has grown into a community of over 2,300 General Counsels, in-house lawyers and corporate legal professionals spanning India’s most consequential boardrooms.

The nomination was submitted on the strength of three initiatives that collectively demonstrate FICL’s measurable impact on India’s in-house legal community — hosting the annual Corporate Lawyers Summit, establishing India’s first cross-PSU legal working group, convening roundtables with Singapore’s Ministry of Law and the Law Society of England and Wales, and publishing a pioneering post-COVID-19 survey on dispute resolution jointly with the Centre for Trade and Investment Law.

FICL’s vision has remained constant: to foster an exchange of legal expertise within the Indian corporate legal community, promote excellence in professional standards, and provide meaningful developmental opportunities for in-house lawyers and legal professionals across India.

FICL is also globally connected, maintaining memberships of In-House Counsel Worldwide (ICW), the Asia Pacific Corporate Counsel Alliance (APCCA), and The African Corporate and Government Counsel Forum (ACGC Forum)- giving its members a platform that spans 17 countries.

A Dedication

This recognition holds particular significance for FICL. The Association pauses to honour the memory of its late Founder and CEO, Dr. Ashok Sharma FCIArb, whose unwavering conviction in the potential of India’s in-house legal community laid the foundation for everything FICL has achieved. This award is dedicated to his legacy.

FICL also acknowledges with deep gratitude its Patrons, Honorary President, the distinguished members of its National Advisory Group, its supporting organisations and sponsors, whose steadfast belief and support have been integral to this journey.

 Quote

“This recognition by Legal 500 is a proud milestone for FICL and, more importantly, for the entire in-house legal community in India. It validates what our members have always known- that India’s General Counsels and in-house lawyers are world-class professionals who deserve a global platform.

We are equally mindful that this moment stands on the shoulders of our late Founder and CEO, Dr. Ashok Sharma FCIArb, whose vision, sacrifice, and unshakeable belief in India’s in-house legal community gave FICL its purpose and its soul. We dedicate this recognition first to his memory, and then to each of our 2,300+ members who carry his legacy forward every day.”

— Rohan Sharma FCIArb, Director, Federation of Indian Corporate Lawyers
