A Shillong Court granted bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, a prime accused in the alleged murder of her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, citing failure by police to properly communicate the grounds of her arrest. The Court found that all arrest-related documents incorrectly mentioned Section 403(1) BNS and did not inform her of the graver charge under Section 103(1) BNS (murder), rejecting the State’s claim of clerical error.
It further noted that the “Intimation of Grounds of Arrest” was incomplete and lacked specific factual details, causing prejudice to her defence. The Court also observed that she was not represented by counsel when first produced before a magistrate. The Court granted bail on a personal bond of ₹50,000.
