The Rajasthan High Court has directed prison authorities to ensure that Asaram Bapu continues to receive necessary medical treatment and healthcare facilities while serving his life sentence in a case involving the sexual assault of a minor. The Court emphasised that his advanced age and medical condition must be taken into account and that uninterrupted access to healthcare should be maintained.
Hearing a petition filed on his behalf, the Court instructed the jail administration to provide all essential medical care and monitor his health condition. It further observed that if adequate treatment cannot be provided within the prison system, or if his health deteriorates, authorities should make arrangements for his admission to a hospital for specialised treatment.
Asaram Bapu, who is serving a life sentence following his conviction in a rape case involving a minor girl, has repeatedly sought judicial relief on medical grounds, citing age-related ailments and deteriorating health. Courts have previously considered his health condition while deciding applications for interim bail and medical treatment.
