SCBA Condemns “Brutal Murder” of Senior Advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad

Advocate murder Hyderabad case

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Tuesday condemned the killing of Senior Advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad, calling it a planned, brutal and shocking murder that has raised serious concerns over the safety of advocates.

In a statement issued by SCBA Honorary Secretary Pragya Baghel, the Association said the incident had deeply disturbed the legal fraternity.

“The incident has deeply disturbed the legal fraternity and raises serious concerns regarding the safety and security of advocates discharging their professional duties.

The attack resulting in the death of a member of the Bar is not merely a crime against an individual but an assault on the institution of justice itself. The legal profession forms an essential pillar of the justice delivery system, and any act of violence against advocates strikes at the very foundation of the rule of law.

The SCBA expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prays for strength to them during this difficult time.”

The SCBA urged authorities to conduct a fair, expeditious and thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice at the earliest.

Senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin, who was practising before the Telangana High Court and City Civil Court for over three decades, was allegedly run over by a speeding SUV outside his residence at Masab Tank in Hyderabad on May 23. Police suspect the incident was a targeted killing.

According to reports, CCTV footage showed a green Scorpio SUV allegedly ramming into Moizuddin while he was getting into his car outside his residence. He later succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital.

Family members have alleged that the murder was linked to sensitive legal disputes and anti-encroachment litigation concerning waqf properties being handled by the advocate. His son reportedly claimed there had been multiple prior attempts on his father’s life.

Reports further stated that Moizuddin had previously sought a weapon licence, citing threats to his life, though the request was allegedly denied. Police have formed special investigation teams and are probing the alleged conspiracy angle behind the killing.
