SCBA Issues Show-Cause Notice to Advocate Over Alleged Misconduct Towards President, Calling Executive Committee Member ‘Dalal’

SCBA Advocate Misconduct Show Cause

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has issued a show-cause notice to an advocate over alleged improper and unprofessional conduct towards SCBA President Pradeep Kumar Rai and remarks against a member of the Association’s Executive Committee.

In a notice dated October 13, 2026, the SCBA stated that its Executive Committee had found a prima facie case of improper conduct against advocate following consideration of a complaint.

The notice refers to an incident on October 13, when the SCBA President and members of the Executive Committee gathered on the Supreme Court lawns to express solidarity with advocates who were reportedly beaten during the protest on October 10. It states that the President was subjected to unparliamentary language and intimidation during media interviews, with the incident subsequently circulating on social media and national news channels.

The notice further states that the Association received a WhatsApp message attributed to the advocate in which he allegedly referred to a member of the Executive Committee as “Dalal” (दलाल). It notes that the President and Executive Committee members are elected representatives and that the Committee takes decisions by majority, raising concerns under Rule 35 of the SCBA rules.

The Advocate has been asked to submit a written explanation within seven days of receiving the notice, explaining why proceedings under Rule 35 should not be pursued against him. The notice states that further action could include suspension or expulsion from SCBA membership.
