The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Centre, Jharkhand Government, Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and other respondents on a plea seeking an independent, time-bound CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Competitive Examination 2025.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana, sought responses from the Union Government, State Government, JPSC and other concerned respondents.

The plea seeks either a CBI inquiry or an investigation by a former Supreme Court judge, Senior Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra, appearing for the petitioner, submitted before the Court.

The petition has been filed by activist Harisharan Devgan through Advocate Satyam Singh Rajput under Article 32 of the Constitution. Senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra appeared by the petitioner. The petition raises concerns regarding the integrity, fairness, transparency and credibility of the preliminary examination conducted by JPSC.

The petition concerns the preliminary examination held on April 19, 2026, pursuant to JPSC Advertisement No. 01/2026. The petitioner has sought an independent investigation into the alleged irregularities rather than merely seeking cancellation of the examination.
