Supreme Court Takes Union’s Menstrual Hygiene Compliance Report On Record, To Review Progress Again In 3 Months

menstrual hygiene compliance

The Supreme Court continued monitoring compliance in the menstrual hygiene matter, taking on record the Union government’s detailed status note on implementation of its directions concerning menstrual hygiene management in schools and directing that it form part of the order. The compliance summary placed before the Bench outlined steps taken by 36 States and Union Territories, along with multiple ministries, on issues including access to sanitary products, separate toilets, disposal mechanisms, awareness programmes, and menstrual hygiene education in schools.

The Court directed the Union to file a fresh compliance report after three months, while continuing to monitor implementation of its directions across the country. The Centre was also tasked with periodically collecting compliance data from States to ensure effective implementation in letter and spirit.
