In a Public Interest Litigation filed before the Allahabad High Court by a practicing lawyer of the High Court’s Lucknow Bench seeking directions upon respondents 1,2,12, and 13 to ban access of the gaming platform ROBLOX and other similar platforms to minors, a Division Bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Manjive Shukla issued notice to the respondents.
By the petition, the petitioner also sought directions upon the respondents to constitute a high-level committee of child psychologist, cyber experts, AI moderators, law enforcement authority to access risks and recommend immediate protective measures. Mandatory and periodic workshops, seminars, as well as awareness drives in schools and educational institutions were also sought to sensitize children, teachers, and parents regarding the potential psychological, behavioural, and safety risks associated with online gaming platforms including Roblox.
The Court considered the petition and issued notice to respondents 6, 9, and respondents 12 to 15.
