The Bar Council of India (BCI) on Saturday declared the results of the All India Bar Examination-XXI (AIBE-XXI), recording an overall pass percentage of 65.92% after the qualifying marks were reduced by three marks on the recommendation of the examination’s Monitoring Committee.
The examination was conducted on June 7, 2026, across 292 examination centres in 60 cities. A total of 1,75,701 candidates appeared for the examination, comprising 1,10,909 male candidates, 64,784 female candidates and 8 transgender candidates.
According to the BCI, the Monitoring Committee observed, after examining the question paper and the result summary, that the qualifying cut-off should be moderated. While the prescribed qualifying marks were 45 for General category candidates and 40 for SC/ST/PwD candidates, the Committee unanimously decided to reduce the qualifying marks by three before declaration of the results.
Following the moderation:
● Total candidates qualified: 1,15,805
● Total candidates not qualified: 59,876
● Qualified male candidates: 73,045
● Qualified female candidates: 42,757
● Qualified transgender candidates: 3
● Results withheld: 20 candidates, owing to pending malpractice cases.
The examination was conducted under the supervision of a Monitoring Committee headed by Justice Hima Kohli (Retd.), former Judge of the Supreme Court, with members including Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor of Dharmashastra National Law University, and Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Shanthakumar, Director of Gujarat National Law University.
The BCI also announced that the next All India Bar Examination (AIBE-XXII) will be held on November 29, 2026. Online registrations will commence on August 19, 2026, and the tentative result is expected to be declared between January 7 and January 10, 2027.
