The Commonwealth Peace Mediation Conference (CPMC) 2026, a first-of-its-kind international conference dedicated to advancing mediation, peacebuilding, and the rule of law, will be held from July 31 to August 2, 2026 in Jaipur. The conference, themed “Peace Mediation and the Rule of Law,” will convene judges, lawyers, mediators, policymakers, diplomats, academics, and dispute resolution professionals from across the Commonwealth and beyond.
The conference is being hosted by the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RSLSA) in collaboration with the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), and Nivaaran – Mediators of the Supreme Court of India. Conceived as a global platform to strengthen mediation as a cornerstone of access to justice and peaceful dispute resolution, CPMC 2026 seeks to position India at the forefront of the international mediation movement.
The Opening Ceremony on 31 July 2026 will be graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Chief Justice of India, who will officially inaugurate the conference. The inaugural session will also feature addresses by Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of Law & Justice, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, Shri R. Venkataramani, Attorney General for India, Mr. Steven Thiru, President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, and Mr. Vikas Singh, Senior Advocate and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
The inaugural ceremony will also see the release of the autobiography of Mr. Aruneshwar Gupta, Senior Advocate and Vice President, Nivaaran, titled “Death of my Mistress — The Law; Birth of my Love — Justice.”
Spread over three days, the conference will deliberate on eight thematic tracks covering environmental justice, family mediation, criminal justice, commercial disputes, workplace conflicts, infrastructure and public projects, community mediation, and global peacebuilding. The discussions aim to explore how mediation can strengthen institutions, foster dialogue, and build more inclusive societies in an increasingly complex world.
The conference is anchored in the ideals of UN Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and the shared values of the Commonwealth. It seeks to promote mediation not merely as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, but as a transformative tool for strengthening the rule of law, enhancing access to justice, and fostering lasting social harmony.
The conference will culminate on 2 August 2026 with the adoption of the Jaipur Declaration on Peace Mediation 2026, reaffirming the collective commitment of stakeholders across jurisdictions to mainstream mediation as an essential pillar of justice and international cooperation.
