The Rouse Avenue Court on Monday acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the sexual harassment case filed by six women wrestlers. The court also acquitted co-accused and former WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar.

The prosecution had accused Brij Bhushan Singh of sexually harassing six women wrestlers between 2016 and 2019 during his tenure as WFI chief. Tomar had also faced charges in connection with the case.

The criminal proceedings arose from allegations made by several leading wrestlers, including Olympic and international medalists, whose protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in 2023 sparked a nationwide debate on athlete safety, accountability in sports administration, and institutional response to complaints of sexual harassment.

The trial formally commenced in July 2024. While 43 witnesses were initially cited by the prosecution, several were dropped as the proceedings progressed. Following the examination of the remaining witnesses and completion of final arguments, the court had reserved its verdict on July 2 for pronouncement on August 3.
