Delhi Court Rioting Abetment Conviction

A Delhi court has convicted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain of the offence of abetment to rioting in a case relating to the 2020 Delhi riots, while acquitting him of all other offences. The Court also acquitted seven co-accused of all charges.

Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh of the Karkardooma Court delivered the verdict on October 10.

A detailed order is awaited.

Background

The case arose from an FIR registered at Dayalpur Police Station under Sections 147, 148, 149, 427, 436 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The complaint alleged that his shop was looted and set on fire on February 24, 2020, resulting in losses of approximately ₹17–18 lakh in stolen goods and ₹10 lakh in property damage.
