The Coordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Associations of Delhi has called for a complete abstention from judicial work on May 14, 2026, citing deep concern over what it described as the Delhi High Court’s unilateral and non-consultative approach in matters affecting district court bar associations and the functioning of district courts.
In a circular dated May 11, the committee said the decision was taken unanimously at an emergency meeting held on May 10. The committee alleged that crucial decisions relating to infrastructure development, enhancement of pecuniary jurisdiction, policy formulation, and other matters directly impacting the legal fraternity, litigants, and the administration of justice were being taken without meaningful participation or consultation with court-annexed district court bar associations.
The circular stated that repeated requests, representations, and suggestions made by bar associations had been consistently disregarded, prompting the collective call for abstention.
Describing the move as more than a protest, the committee said it was a collective assertion of the dignity, independence, and legitimate rights of the legal fraternity and urged advocates across all district courts in Delhi to participate in the abstention.
