Delhi HC Reconstitutes Commercial Division, Redistributes Arbitration Jurisdiction in Fresh Roster from July 1

Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court has notified a fresh roster effective July 1, 2026, introducing significant changes to the allocation of commercial, arbitration, constitutional and criminal matters. The new roster reconstitutes the Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division while redistributing arbitration work among multiple Original Side judges.

Under the revised roster, the Commercial Division will comprise Justice Avneesh Jhingan, Justice Subramonium Prasad, Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, Justice Sachin Datta, Justice Om Prakash Shukla, Justice Jyoti Singh and Justice

Anup Jairam Bhambhani, who will hear commercial suits and arbitration matters assigned to them. The Commercial Appellate Division has also been reconstituted with eight Division Benches to hear commercial appeals.

The roster also substantially redistributes arbitration matters. Justice Om Prakash Shukla will hear specified categories of older arbitration matters, while Justices Avneesh Jhingan, Subramonium Prasad, Tushar Rao Gedela and Sachin Datta have been assigned different categories of arbitration petitions and execution proceedings under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. Fresh arbitration matters on the Original Side will be allocated by the Judge-in-Charge (Original Side).

On the constitutional side, the Bench headed by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Kariawill continue to hear all fresh Public Interest Litigations (PILs), constitutional challenges, Letters Patent Appeals and commercial appellate matters.

Among other notable changes, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma has been reassigned from the criminal roster to hear civil writ matters, including RTI, workplace sexual harassment (POSH) and mines-related cases, while Justice Manoj Jain has been entrusted with criminal matters involving sitting and former MPs and MLAs. The revised roster also continues dedicated Intellectual Property Division benches to hear IP disputes.
