The Delhi High Court has issued a comprehensive transfer and posting order effecting a major reshuffle in both the Delhi Higher Judicial Service (DHJS) and the Delhi Judicial Service (DJS), with the transfers taking effect from August 4, 2026. The orders, issued with the approval of the Chief Justice and companion Judges, reassign over 150 judicial officers across various districts and courts in the national capital.
A significant feature of the DHJS order is the creation of Special Exclusive Courts pursuant to the Supreme Court’s directions in Suo Motu W.P. (Criminal) No. 1/2026 (In Re: Creation/Establishment of Special Courts). Thirteen officers have been posted to these newly established courts at the Rouse Avenue Court Complex to exclusively deal with cases under statutes including the NIA Act, UAPA, MCOCA, NDPS Act, and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. These postings have been made to newly created courts.
The transfer orders also involve wide-ranging reassignments of District Judges, Additional Sessions Judges, Family Court Judges, Special Judges, Commercial Court Judges and Judicial Magistrates across courts in Saket, Tis Hazari, Rohini, Dwarka, Karkardooma, Patiala House and Rouse Avenue. Several officers returning from deputation, child care leave and other assignments have also been posted to new positions, while multiple vacancies have been filled through corresponding transfers.
Separately, the Delhi Judicial Service order transfers officers serving as Chief Judicial Magistrates, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrates, Senior Civil Judges, Civil Judges and Judicial Magistrates, besides officers on deputation with institutions such as the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) and the Delhi International Arbitration Centre (DIAC).
