Delhi HC CJ Orders Action After Porn Disruption in VC Hearings, Warns Against Recording and Circulation of Proceedings

Virtual court disruption legal action

The Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya has directed the Registrar General to take immediate action following multiple incidents in which pornographic content was played during virtual court proceedings, disrupting hearings across several courts.

The issue was raised by Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, who informed the Bench that such disruptions were not confined to the Chief Justice’s court but had occurred in multiple courtrooms. He described the incidents as “disconcerting” and warned that they undermine the sanctity and integrity of the judicial institution.

Responding to the concern, the Chief Justice stated that administrative instructions had already been issued to the Registrar General to address the situation. He further emphasised that recording of court proceedings is strictly prohibited under the applicable rules unless specifically permitted, and warned that action would be taken against individuals responsible for recording or circulating such material.

The ASG also pointed out that clips of the disrupted proceedings were being circulated online and suggested invocation of Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, for immediate takedown of such content. Taking note of the submission, the Chief Justice reiterated that the matter would be dealt with in accordance with law.
