The General Counsels’ Association of India (GCAI) is set to host “Two Nations, One Legal Future: India–UK Partnership 2026” in London on June 5, 2026, on the sidelines of the London International Disputes Week (LIDW), bringing together senior judges, policymakers, arbitrators, general counsel, industry leaders and legal professionals to discuss the future of India–United Kingdom legal and economic cooperation.
The event will be held at the offices of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) and will focus on strengthening collaboration between India and the United Kingdom in areas including cross-border investment, dispute resolution, infrastructure development, fintech governance, legal technology and regulatory innovation.
According to the organisers, the dialogue is intended to serve as a platform for examining how legal institutions and regulatory frameworks can evolve to support economic growth, investment confidence and international cooperation as India advances towards its vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
The programme will feature three thematic sessions. The first session, “Strategic Partnerships & Investment Corridors: Enabling the Next Wave of India–UK Growth,” will examine issues surrounding the proposed India–UK Free Trade Agreement, investment protection, infrastructure and energy transition, ESG standards, sustainable finance and regulatory convergence.
A second session titled “Dispute Resolution 2.0: Arbitration, Mediation & Technology in a Digital Economy” will focus on the future of international dispute resolution, including London’s role as a leading arbitral seat, India’s emergence as a global arbitration destination, mediation frameworks, artificial intelligence, digital evidence and online hearings.
The final session, “Building the Legal Ecosystem for Viksit Bharat 2047: Governance, Inclusion & Institutional Innovation,” will explore corporate governance reforms, digital courts, access to justice, compliance automation, academic exchanges and a long-term roadmap for India–UK legal cooperation.
The event is expected to feature participation from prominent members of the legal profession and government, including Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Senior Advocates Mukul Rohatgi, Harish Salve, Geeta Luthra and Pinky Anand, along with leading international arbitration practitioners, law firm partners, general counsel and policymakers from both jurisdictions.
