Justice Tejas Karia recuses himself from hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking contempt proceedings against Arvind Kejriwal and several leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The petition alleged ;unauthorised’ recording and circulation of court proceedings presided over by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma on social media in connection with the excise policy case. When the matter was taken up, Justice Karia stated that the bench would not hear the case.
The Bench, also comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, directed that the matter would not be heard by the present Bench and be listed the following day before a Bench of which Justice Tejas Karia is not a member.
It is pertinent that, prior to his elevation, Justice Karia had appeared as counsel for Meta Platforms (Facebook) in matters involving content and its circulation on social media platforms.
