Speaking as Chair in Panel I discussions on “Emerging Trends in ADR (Energy, Climate, Infrastructure, New Sectors)” at the International Arbitration Confluence of Ideas 2026, Justice Ravindra Bhat, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India, highlighted the growing importance of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms in addressing complex, modern disputes.

Quoting Swami Vivekananda’s idea that education is the manifestation of perfection in man, he said that this confluence, organised at Mahindra University, Hyderabad, brings together academia, judges and jurists to collectively contribute to the legal system in a more positive and effective manner.

He noted that the increasing reliance on ADR is closely tied to India’s ambition of becoming a global hub for cross-border dispute resolution, particularly in emerging sectors such as energy, climate change, and infrastructure.

Drawing attention to the role of innovation, Justice Bhat described modern dispute resolution as a convergence of law, technology, and efficient justice delivery, stating that technological advancements are essential to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global landscape.

He also pointed out that parallel international engagements led by the Chief Justice of India in Sydney reflect India’s growing commitment to strengthening ADR frameworks globally.
