Justice Sanjeev Kumar Appointed as Acting Chief Justice of J&K & Ladakh HC Following Justice Arun Palli’s Elevation to Supreme Court

Acting Chief Justice Appointment

The Central Government today notified that Justice Sanjeev Kumar, presently a Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, will perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the High Court following the elevation of Justice Arun Palli to the Supreme Court of India.

The notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on June 1, 2026.

The appointment has been made in accordance with Article 223 of the Constitution. Article 223 empowers the President to appoint a judge of a High Court to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice when that office falls vacant or when the Chief Justice is unable to perform his duties.
