Karnataka High Court Directs State to Ensure Transgender Survey Is Voluntary; Prohibits Strip Search and Orders Confidentiality

Transgender Survey Rights

The Karnataka High Court directed the State Government and officials conducting the ongoing transgender survey to ensure that participation in the survey is purely voluntary and that individuals are clearly informed of this before being approached.

A Bench of Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C.M. Poonacha also restrained the authorities from conducting the survey through any strip or search method, emphasizing that such practices would violate the dignity and privacy of participants.

The Court further ordered that all information collected during the survey must be kept strictly confidential and must not be disclosed or disseminated in any form.
