The Karnataka government has withdrawn its February 5, 2022 order that had imposed restrictions on religious attire in educational institutions and had triggered the hijab row in the State. Through a fresh notification, the State has clarified that students may wear religious symbols and identifiers including the hijab, turban, rudraksha, cross, and other faith-based markers alongside prescribed uniforms, subject to institutional dress regulations.
The notification states that while schools and colleges may continue to prescribe uniforms, students cannot be denied access to education solely on the basis of religious attire or symbols.
