Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Justice Dwarka Dhish Bansal cycled to the Jabalpur Bench on Tuesday to promote fuel conservation following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal amid rising global energy concerns.
Travelling nearly three kilometres from his official residence, Justice Bansal said the move was intended to encourage people to use bicycles for short-distance travel wherever possible.
He added that he occasionally cycles around Jabalpur with Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, remarking that judges are not exempt from ordinary civic responsibilities.
The gesture comes after PM Modi urged citizens to adopt fuel-saving measures, including cycling and use of public transport, in view of rising crude oil prices and global tensions.
