The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notice in an appeal challenging the Mirzapur Thermal Energy project and has also taken up an accompanying application seeking interim stay of the project.
A Bench comprising Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson, and Dr. Afroz Ahmad, Expert Member noted that it had already condoned the delay in filing the appeal by an earlier order dated March 11, 2026. Having done so, it formally issued notice in the appeal as well as in the stay application filed by the appellant.
Recording that the respondents were already represented through counsel, the NGT directed the appellant to furnish copies of the appeal and the stay application to the respondents, if not already supplied, within one week.
The Tribunal further granted four weeks’ time to the respondents to file their replies to the appeal and the interim relief application.
The matter has now been listed for further consideration on August 7, 2026, when the Tribunal is expected to consider the rival submissions, including the plea seeking interim relief against the project.
