The Supreme Court on Monday granted liberty to Independent Member of Parliament (MP) Rajesh Ranjan (Pappu Yadav) to approach the Patna High Court seeking early listing of his plea relating to security arrangements, noting that the issue pertains to the High Court’s domain.
During the hearing, it was submitted that the matter has remained unheard since November 2024 despite repeated attempts. “I have mentioned the matter 24 times, not even one hearing in one and a half years…even the order issuing notice has not been uploaded.”
The petitioner also referred to alleged threats, including from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, stating that there has been an attempt on life. The petition was filed only to seek a direction for expeditious hearing.
Taking note of the grievance and without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case, the Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi granted liberty to the petitioner to move an appropriate application before the High Court seeking listing of the case.
“We have no reason to doubt that the High Court will consider such a prayer sympathetically and pass appropriate orders.”
