The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has strongly condemned the alleged lathi-charge on students and members of the legal fraternity, describing the use of force as excessive and disproportionate and calling for an immediate, impartial and time-bound inquiry into the incident.

In a resolution dated July 22, 2026, the SCBA said the lathi-charge on innocent students resulted in several students sustaining serious injuries and also left members of the Bar, including SCBA members, injured. The Association said the use of force against peaceful protesters was ‘deeply disturbing’ and wholly unacceptable in a democratic society.

The SCBA urged the authorities concerned to conduct an immediate and impartial probe, identify those responsible for the excessive use of force and take appropriate action in accordance with law. It also called upon the authorities to ensure proper medical treatment and assistance for all injured students and members of the legal fraternity, besides taking measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Reiterating its commitment to constitutional values, the Association said it stands in solidarity with all those injured and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting constitutional rights, human dignity and the rule of law.
