The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has expressed grave concern and condemned the reported use of excessive force against, and detention of, senior and young advocates, particularly women advocates, who were peacefully protesting in the Supreme Court area on October 10.
In a resolution dated October 10, 2026, the Association stated that it had been informed that several advocates had been detained. It has requested the Chief Justice of India to urgently intervene and take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
The SCBA has urged that the whereabouts and safety of every detained advocate be ascertained, that they be provided access to legal assistance, and that those against whom there are no lawful grounds for detention be released immediately.
The Association has further called for an examination of the circumstances surrounding the detentions and the reported use of force, and for appropriate action in accordance with law.
