The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard an application seeking clarification/modification of its May 22 order concerning the Social Science textbook for Grade 8 (Part-II).

The applicant sought clarification regarding a portion of the May 22 order recording the Solicitor General’s statement that the curriculum prepared by the applicants had not been placed before the committee at all levels and therefore could not be termed a collective decision.

Counsel submitted that the curriculum follows a two-tier committee process and that the relevant material had in fact been placed before the committees. It was argued that the observation, if left unclarified, could create a permanent record suggesting negligence or dereliction of duty.

The Court indicated that the statement attributed to the Solicitor General was only a submission and not a finding or direction of the Court. The applicant sought that the clarification be confined to the relevant portion of the May 22 order. The sun motu case stands closed,
