Contempt Plea Filed in Supreme Court Over Alleged Non Compliance With Order on Delhi Metro Shutdown

Supreme Court Metro Contempt Plea

A contempt of court petition has been filed before the Supreme Court alleging wilful disobedience of its October 9 order directing that there should be no complete prohibition on the movement of Metro trains and other public transport ahead of the proposed protests at Jantar Mantar by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

The petition seeks contempt proceedings against Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Chairperson D Thara.

The petitioner has alleged that despite the Court’s order, the DMRC announced the closure of entry and exit gates at 45 Metro stations from 9 PM on October 9 until 6 PM on October 10.

The plea further alleges continued train cancellations and inadequate publicity regarding revised transport arrangements. It seeks directions requiring the officials concerned to appear personally before the Court and explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated. It also seeks the withdrawal of blanket restrictions and restoration of regulated transport services.
