The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission to examine allegations of irregularities in electoral forms submitted in Uttar Pradesh, after concerns were raised regarding bulk submissions and discrepancies in the forms.
During the hearing, Sr Adv Dama Seshadari Naidu appearing for the State submitted that officers had conducted checks and cross-verification of the complaints and found certain allegations to be false. However, the petitioner’s side pointed to alleged material inconsistencies, including an instance in which 32 forms were reportedly submitted in a single constituency, all belonging to persons from one particular community. It was also alleged that two forms on record bore signatures raising questions about their authenticity.

The Court was informed that similar concerns had arisen in Karnataka and Telangana. The submission was that the absence of effective action in Uttar Pradesh, despite directions to examine the allegations, had emboldened those responsible.
The Court indicated that the Election Commission should examine the relevant material and take necessary action.
