The Supreme Court on Monday granted time till 5 PM on the following day to advocates whose eligibility to vote in the Supreme Court Advocate-on-Record Association (SCAORA) elections remained unresolved, directing that their applications be considered if submitted in full compliance with the prescribed requirements.
During the hearing, the Court was informed that 112 advocates had already been found eligible and permitted to cast their votes, while disputes continued regarding another 48 advocates. Counsel appearing in the matter alleged that the Election Committee had altered the eligibility form midway by removing the undertaking clause. The Court granted one day and thereafter directed:
“If those who submit their application forms in full respect by tomorrow 5 p.m., their application may also be considered for the purpose of allowing them to cast vote in the ensuing election.”
The Bench further made it clear that the elections scheduled for May 21 should proceed and that the results be declared thereafter.
The development comes pursuant to proceedings before the Supreme Court concerning the exclusion of newly registered Advocates-on-Record from the SCAORA voter list for the 2026 elections. The writ petition was filed for the inclusion of newly qualified Advocates-on-Record (AORs) in the voters’ list for the SCAORA elections

The Court had provisionally permitted newly registered AORs to vote and observed that they should not lose voting rights because of administrative delays in formal induction.
