Supreme Court Pulls Up Maharashtra Police, Directs Formation of SIT with Hindu and Muslim Officers to Probe Assault Case

SIT Probe Maharashtra

The Supreme Court of India strongly emphasized that a person donning the police uniform must rise above all forms of bias, including religion and caste, and must discharge duties impartially in accordance with the law. In a stern rebuke of the Maharashtra Police for failing to adequately investigate a sensitive assault case, the Court directed the State Home Secretary to immediately constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The SIT is to comprise senior officers from both Hindu and Muslim communities to ensure a fair, unbiased, and thorough probe into the matter.
